COVID vaccines available without appointment at two Colorado Springs, Pueblo sites

DENVER — Coronavirus vaccines are now available without an appointment at all six state-run vaccine sites in Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis said Tuesday.

Four of the six sites opened to walk-ins last week. The remaining two are open to walk-ins as of Tuesday.

The two state-run sites in southern Colorado are:

El Paso County: Broadmoor World Arena

  • 3185 Venetucci Blvd, Colorado Springs, 80906
  • Open Friday through Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Drive-through and walk-up site
  • Offering Pfizer vaccine
  • Schedule an appointment (optional)

Pueblo County: Colorado State Fairgrounds

  • 1001 Beulah Ave, Pueblo, 81004
  • Open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Drive-through and walk-up site
  • Offering Pfizer vaccine
  • Schedule an appointment (optional)

Everyone over age 18 is eligible for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, while everyone over 16 is eligible for the Pfizer vaccine.

Polis said these sites are still accepting appointments, but they are no longer required.

In Tuesday’s update, Polis and state epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy shared data showing that counties with the lowest vaccination rates have the highest number of COVID-19 cases, and areas with the highest vaccination rates have the lowest number of cases.

Polis said the data “shouldn’t come as a surprise.”

“We hope that this cold, hard data helps convince people that might be on the sidelines to get vaccinated and protect yourselves. For yourself, for your community, for your state, for your family: Get vaccinated,” he said.

Herlihy said cases statewide are increasing most rapidly in children between ages 11 and 17. Cases are also increasing, though less dramatically, in children ages 3-10.

Children under 16 are not currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
