COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — This weekend, people across the state got the chance to check out the latest in vehicle technology.

National Drive Electric Week started Saturday, and that afternoon, the Chapel Hills Mall hosted an event to showcase all of the newest models–even bikes and motorcycles.

Attendees also got to learn about how these vehicles work and why they’re better for the environment, and even test drive them.

Organizers said although the concept is relatively new, these cars aren’t as expensive as you might think.

“The market is expanding and as it expands the vehicles get cheaper,” Kyle Lisek, coordinator of the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Coalition, said. “The batteries get longer. So electric vehicles are the future and they will only continue to get cheaper and faster and longer lasting.”

Events to promote electric vehicles will be held across the state and the nation this week.
