To learn to read, kids need something to read, and the Pikes Peak Library District is here to help.

From now until April 22, any 4-year-old can get a free book from any Pikes Peak Library District location. It’s part of the One Book Colorado program.

According to the library, 4-year-olds with access to books are more likely to be ready to read when they start kindergarten.

“Reading is one of the main things you can do with your child to get them ready to learn to read,” Christa Funke with the Pikes Peak Library District said. “It helps them build vocabulary, it helps them foster a love of reading, and it also just helps them learn as they learn what a book is, how it works, and how much fun it is to read together.”

The book the kids will get is called “Penguinaut!” by Marcie Colleen.
