Dozens of community members gathered at Cascade Community Park Sunday for their annual ice cream social.
The event, hosted by the Cascade Women’s Club, featured desserts, hot dogs, chili, and, of course, ice cream. There was also a silent auction, with proceeds funding college scholarships for Manitou High School seniors.
“We just feel like it’s important to give back, and we enjoy raising money,” Lisa Haigh with the women’s club said. “That’s the purpose of our group, to raise money and give it away to causes in need.”
“It really helped a lot,” Manitou graduate Alena Akse said. “I know my family was very worried about finances once I got into my college, so it was really a great relief, and a lot of help, so thank you.”
The group currently has $2,500 in the scholarship fund. Manitou Springs High School students can ask their counselors for information on how to apply.
In the past, the group has raised $10,000 for the fire department.
