Big Brothers Big Sisters gets $50,000 for new law enforcement mentorship program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is getting a big donation to help keep its programs going.

A new mentorship program called Bigs with Badges pairs at-risk children with local law enforcement as mentors. AT&T presented a $50,000 check to help fund the program during a ceremony Thursday morning.

"The mentor gets just as much out of the program, a Big with a Badge, as the little does," Sports Buddy programming specialist Dennis Wansor said. "We always talk about the littles and what they get out of the program, but it's the big, it's what they find out. A different perspective from a kid coming from, like I had mentioned earlier, a little bit of adversity."

Bigs with Badges is a nationwide initiative that facilitates strong and trusting relationships between law enforcement and the families they serve.
