Winter weather will return to the area with a vengeance on Saturday as a cold blast of air works its way down the Front Range. Snow, wind and much colder temperatures are expected by Saturday morning for the northern half of the Pikes Peak region. The snow will begin in the mountains on Friday afternoon and move into northern El Paso county early Saturday.
Some areas near Monument, Black Forest and out toward Calhan and Peyton could see four to nine inches of snow. Besides the actual snowfall totals, the winds will be another thing to watch out for. Some wind gusts near 40 and 50 miles an hour from the north are possible. That’s why the National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and blizzard warnings for the area. Temps will be cold throughout southern Colorado over the weekend.
The heaviest snow and strongest wind will occur in northern El Paso and parts of Teller counties. Further south, wind, rain and snow will be the main factor.
