COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Winter weather is the culprit of extended temporary lane closures on Interstate-25 betwen Colorado Springs and Monument, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The lane closures, according to CDOT, are on I-25 between Monument and Woodmen Road. Soil and pavement samples are being taken and the cold weather is delaying the process, officials said.

CDOT said the northbound lanes in the area are being reduced and the speed limit is being reduced to 65mph. That will last for the next couple of nights, CDOT said.

All work is being done between 8:30 p.m., and 5:30 a.m.

The sampes, CDOT said, are needed to help design an upcoming widening project between Monument and Woodmen Road.

Starting Sunday, the closures begin on southbound I-25 and end on Friday, Feb. 22.
