Man involved in violent sexual assault case found guilty on misdemeanors

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A jury has found one of the suspects involved in a violent sexual assault case last July guilty of misdemeanor charges.
According to 4th Judicial District Attorney Dan May, Yasir Jasim was found guilty on two false reporting misdemeanor charges. Jasim was, however, found not guilty on three accessory charges. On the charge of giving false information to police, the jury was hung.
It was July 21, 2012 when a woman had been checking her mail at the Wildridge Apartments when she heard a group of men fighting, police said.
The woman, according to police, stepped in to try to cam then down. Soon after the fight, police said the victim was invited inside an apartment and was given what she thought was lemonade at the Wildridge Apartment . She said the rest was a blur.
Police said the woman suffered significant internal injuries that were consistant with blunt force trauma. She also suffered serious bodily injuries, police said.
"I have been a police officer for a lot of years, and when I look at the injuries this is one of the more severe sexual assault cases I have been a part of and investigated," Colorado Springs Lt. Howard Black said after the crime. crime.
Five Springs residents from Iraq, including Jasim, were arrested as suspects in the case.
