COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The former Fort Carson soldier convicted of killing his 2-month-old daughter in 2011 has been sentenced to 32 years in prison, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney.

Roderick Laron Elam, Jr., was convicted of child abuse in his daughter’s death in Dec. 2011 and was sentenced Wednesday. Police said he received 32 years for injury to her liver and eight years for injury to her brain.

Her name was Harmone'e Elam.

Harmone'e was originally taken to Memorial Hospital after she stopped breathing, police said. She showed no signs of abuse but according to an autopsy, Harmone'e died of blunt force injuries to the head and abdomen. Her death was then ruled a homicide.

Elam’s wife, Lakeria Grant, was also charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Death.

Elam was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division.
