COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Police Department is stepping up its patrols in an effort to decrease wrecks.

CSPD said it identified intersections throughout the city that had a a higher record of crashes and injuries. At those intersections, officers will become more visible and will be aggressively dealing with traffic violations.

Small teams of motor officers can be expected at the intersections, where distracted drivers and speeders will be sought.

On Tuesday, the department said it would be out in force at the intersection of Austin Bluffs and Academy.

According to police, the two most cited infractions are red light violations and vehicles turning left. Those infractions, police said, are also responsible for causing the most crashes.
