COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs, Colo.--Authorities have released the name of the victim killed in a multiple car crash on Academy and Airport today.
According to Colorado Springs police, Orlando Medina-Cauich was the driver of a Saturn heading northbound on Academy, and died as a result of the crash.
Colorado Springs police say three suspects were eastbound in a stolen Kia and ran a red light colliding with the Saturn.
According to police, a patrol officer spotted the stolen car, and was running on a check on the license plate. It is believed the suspects saw the officer and tried to flee; CSPD was not in an active pursuit of the Kia. After impact, the suspects fled the scene in three different directions, but were all quickly apprehended. One of the suspects dropped a gun while they ran away. It was later discovered that the gun was stolen in a home burglary last week.
The suspects have not yet been released.
Police said three to five cars were involved in the crash, and continue to investigate. The intersection of Airport and Academy was closed for about 5 hours.
