COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- New information has been released about a carbon monoxide leak at a Colorado Springs apartment complex that killed a man in early October.

Investigators said an old and improperly vented furnace pumped carbon monoxide through the apartment complex, and led to the death of 50-year-old Benedo Valdez.

Officials with Colorado Springs Utilities, and the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, said they have determined Valdez died after the furnace pumped the gas into the Vista Peak Apartments on October 7, 2012.

They said the 32-building complex has been cited 14 times in the last five years by Colorado Springs Utilities for having dangrous appliances that were required to be shut off until they were fixed.
