DENVER (AP) -- Horse rescue ranches are reporting large increases in the number of neglected horses as people continue to struggle economically.
The Elbert County Sheriff's Office says it has seen a 25 percent increase in animal abuse cases compared to last summer.
The Denver Dumb Friend's League tells KMGH-TV it currently cares for about 50 horses, but it expects that number to more than double by winter as feed costs increase.
