COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Dealing with the damage of a storm means more than just clearing away debris. For locals with property and car damage, it means filing a claim.
Here are a few things to keep in mind: document the damage, take photos and prevent further damage.
"So if you have holes in your windows you want to cover that up, you want prevent further damage from happening," Tamie Farris, an Allstate Insurance agent, said.
Everytime there's a hail storm, scammers go door-to-door targeting damaged neighborhoods, so to make sure the repair business is reputable, make sure they're licensed and insured.
The key is to think about your decisions instead of panicking and signing with the first business you see.
"Somebody came at 8:00 already saying, 'We're doing roofs.' I said 'I don't think so,'" Hilda Freidlund, a Colorado Springs local, said.
Plus, if you have flood damage and are assuming it's covered in your homeowner's policy, think again.
It's one of the major exclusions and is sold separately.
