PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies said a 4-month-old pregnant mare fell into a seven foot hole in the county Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies, officials with the Pueblo Rural Fire Department, Pueblo County Road and Bridge crews and Pueblo Animal Control officials all responded to the 61000 block of Huckleberry Road in eastern Pueblo County after the horse fell into a hole and got stuck.
Veterinarians said vitals on the horse were positive, and she is resting well at home Tuesday evening. Her owners will be looking for signs of stress that may lead to an early labor.
Road and Bridge crews used ditch maintenance equipment to lift the horse out of the hole.
"Animal rescues give us practice and confidence," Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Bureau Chief Mark Mears. "That translates to experience, and when a human life is at stake, we all know we can successfully work together."
