COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An empty lot on Mirror Lake Circle marked a milestone. It's the 100th building permit given out to the Mountain Shadows area homeowners.

"All the credit goes to the neighbors to mountain shadows," Bob Cutter of Colorado Springs Together explained, "they've shown incredible tenacity, incredible committment, incredible communuity spirit and there are so many good things coming out of this."

There's still a lot of digging, drilling and breaking down to be done in the area, but Bob said they're surely making progress.

"No sooner had we passed a hundred than I was told we passed a hundred and one! So we just keep on going so we're looking for that momentum to continue for the next few months," he added.

While there are still more than 200 homes that were destroyed to be attended to, Bob explained that 89 percentĀ of homeowners hurt by the fire have been taken care of by their insurance, and surprisingly only 4 insurance companies covered the majority of the region.

But Bob also explained that as more houses pop up, there's even more progress being made that we can't see.

"Neighbors working closer together, neighbors discovering neighbors, homeowners associations being more strong and committed than they ever have been," he said, "I think those are all great foundations for Mountain Shadows to be a fabulous neighborhood going forward."
