Carjacking ends with one in custody

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs police arrested a 29-year-old man accused of carjacking a man late Thursday evening.

Just before 11 p.m., on Thursday, police responedd to a carjacking near East Fountain Boulevard and South Shelton Road.

Police said a 54-year-old man was approached by two white men who assaulted him with a handgun. One of the suspects fled with the man's pickup, a Ford F-150, police said. The other suspect, according to police, ran away.

The vehicle and suspect descriptions were broadcast on police radio. Soon after the message, Falcon police officers found the stolen pickup in an area near Garden of the Gods Road and Interstate 25.

After contacting the man, 29-year-old Gene Hamilton, in the vehicle, he was arrested as he matched the suspect description. A handgun was found in Hamilton's wasitband, police said.

Hamilton was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Felony Menacing and Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender.

The second suspect was not found.
