FOX21's Meaghan Collier catches up with Eight End Curling at the US Olympic Curling Trials.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- "Our two teams from here will go to the Olympic Trials," Director of US Curling Association, Andy Anderson, said.
Unfortunately, Eight End Curling-- from here in Southern Colorado is not one of those teams.
You'll remember these guys from a year or so ago-- we met them at the beginning of their journey to the Olympics.
"The season has been great," curler Jim Hideman said. "It's amazing how far we believe we've come. Our story started with four guys that didn't know anything about curling."
They weren't really very good in the beginning.
"At the Club Nationals, we lost by a combined total of 128 points.
But on this ice, things can change.
"At men's nationals, we lost by only 11 combined points."
You probably guessed it, they didn't make it to the Olympics.
"For us, we're still happy because we're still curling at Broomfield," Hideman said. "It's just Wii Curling."
Oh Wii Curling, the game where dreams come true and champions are made.
"We figured we would teach us how to Wii Curl," Hideman said, "Probably since we weren't teaching people how to real curl."
Sure, it's not as cold, but there is sweeping involved. And besides, it's keeping Eight End Curling's Olympic dream alive.
"I think we all have it in us to give it a shot for 2014," Brock Gleason said.
Clearly, the curling spirit never dies.
"This is just a break," Gleason said. "It helps with the knee."
