Denver defeats N. Michigan 5-2

DENVER (AP) -- Luke Salazar had two goals and an assist to lead Denver to a 5-2 win over Northern Michigan on Friday in men's college hockey.

Both of Salazar's goals came on the power play. The Pioneers (13-5-3) were 4-for-12 with a man advantage and six of the game's seven goals came on the power play. The only even-strength goal belonged to Denver's Chris Knowlton.

Northern Michigan (9-9-3) led 2-0 going into the third period.

John Lee netted Denver's first goal at 1:14 of the third. The Pioneers then scored four times in 2 minutes, 17 seconds, beginning at 10:43.

Denver outshot the Wildcats 28-17.

Northern Michigan goalie Reid Ellingson had 23 saves and Denver's Adam Murray stopped 15 shots.
