NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- Four members of the Air Force track and field team were named to the Men’s Division I All-Academic Team, U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday morning.

The four selections are the most for a men's Air Force program since 2003, when the Falcons placed five on the list.

Rising senior Zachary Nordahl (Molt, Mont.) joined 2009 graduates Daniel Castle (St. Joseph, Mo.), Harmon Gage (Madison, Ala.) and Matt Williams (Colorado Springs) on the Men’s All-Academic Track and Field Team.

After qualifying for the regional meet in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Nordahl will enter his final season with a 3.59 grade point average in civil engineering.

Castle, a regional and national qualifier in the 1500-meter run, graduated with a 3.68 GPA in English. Castle’s grade-point-average matched that of regional javelin qualifier Gage (operation systems management), while Williams tallied a 3.63 GPA in behavioral science.

The Falcons’ quartet was four of a record 327 student-athletes from 107 Division I programs to earn all-academic honors.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.25 or higher and have met either the NCAA Division I indoor automatic qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective events.

Castle, Gage, Nordahl and Williams were joined on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team by freshman Kimber Shealy, who earned a spot on the women’s all-academic team Monday. The five Falcons’ equaled the best total for the Falcons’ program in six years.
