DENVER (AP) -- Denver goalie Sam Brittain turned away 27 shots and the Pioneers took advantage of their offensive chances to beat Michigan Tech 5-1 Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Pioneers (3-0-0, 1-0-0) stayed unbeaten thanks mostly to Brittain, who allowed only Justin Fillion's power-play goal in the second period.

The Huskies (2-3-0, 1-2-0) outshot Denver 28-22, including 12-6 in the first period.

Denver led 3-1 heading into the third period after goals by Dakota Mermis in the first and David Makowski and Quentin Shore in the second. Joey LaLeggia and Drew Shore added third-period goals.

Pheonix Copley had 11 saves in the first two periods for Michigan Tech and Jamie Phillips added six in the third.
