BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Air Force baseball fell to Gardner-Webb 4-3 Friday afternoon in the series opener at John Henry Moss Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 5-8 on the season, while the Runnin’ Bulldogs improved to 9-3-1.

A four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Henry Rundio, keyed the win for Gardner-Web. The Falcons clawed their way back into the game, scoring run in the fourth eighth and ninth innings, but came up just short.

The Falcons had runners on second and third with no outs to start the ninth. After a bunt scored the first run, to pull AFA within one, the rally stalled as no more runs were scored.

Junior Cameron White (1-3) took the loss in the complete game effort. White struck out five over eight innings in the hard-luck loss.

Bulldogs starting pitcher Matt Fraudin (3-1) earned the win, allowing one run over seven innings. Jeff Howell picked up the save.

Air Force had seven hits in the game. Junior centerfielder David Baska had two hits, including a run scored.

Game two of the series is tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST.
