FORT COLLINS, COLO. (AP) -- Colorado State is paying new football coach Jim McElwain and his staff about $1.3 million more than what former coach Steve Fairchild and his staff received.
The Coloradoan reports that documents it requested under the Colorado Open Records Act show McElwain and his staff will receive almost $3.4 million in base salaries, topping the roughly $2 million Fairchild and his staff received.
McElwain's base salary is $1.35 million, while Fairchild's base was $750,000.
Fairchild's lowest-paid assistant coach earned $80,000, while McElwain's lowest-paid assistant coach will earn $140,000.
Both coaches enlisted nine paid assistant coaches. McElwain also has added an assistant director of football operations, a director of player personnel, and an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
