DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Avalanche have a wish list for the first round of the NHL draft Friday. They just have to wait to see who Edmonton takes with the first overall pick before implementing their plan.
The Avalanche hold the second and 11th picks of the draft and have outlined their needs and wants,
Their strategy is to take the best available talent and not to try to address a specific need.
The Avalanche earned the second overall pick through the NHL draft lottery and received the 11th pick in a trade with St. Louis during the season.
Colorado also has picks in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds.
