ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia will try to take a big step on its path back to elite status in women's college basketball when it faces Tennessee in a showdown of top 10 teams in the SEC.
Georgia won its first 16 games for its best start in school history. Coach Andy Landers and his players say they aren't putting too much emphasis on one game, but they acknowledge a win over the Lady Vols would bring affirmation to the program's comeback season.
Georgia, coming off an 18-14 season that ended with a first-round loss in the NCAA tournament, is No. 8 after being out of the top 10 for almost two years. Georgia (17-1 overall, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) can match last season's win total by beating No. 3 Tennessee (16-1, 4-0).
