On Sunday, August 9, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox welcomed Bruce Downs of Colorado Springs through the front gates of Security Service Field as the five millionth fan to attend a regular season Sky Sox game.
Downs was attending the game with his family and as he, his wife Kristen and their three children entered the ballpark, he was stopped just inside the gate where he was met by a large group of Sky Sox staff and much fanfare.
For being the five millionth fan, he was given an authentic Sky Sox jersey with a special 5,000,000th fan designation across the back, a Sky Sox team autographed collector’s 5,000,000th fan bat, a Sky Sox memorabilia fan pack, season tickets for the 2010 season for his entire family, one night in the Sky Sox World Famous Hot Tub for the 2010 season and an overnight stay at the luxurious Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.
Downs was invited onto the field before today’s game and was presented with his special Sky Sox jersey, threw out a ceremonial first pitch and even got to participate in the meeting at home plate with Sky Sox manager Stu Cole.
This season, the Sky Sox have drawn 230,996 fans through 54 openings for an average of 4,277 fans per contest and are on pace to surpass 300,000 fans for the second straight season.
