Air Force freshman pole vaulter Dylan Bell was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today (Jan. 22). It is the second straight week that an Air Force vaulter has earned the weekly conference honor.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- With a career-best clearance of 17’4½”, Bell placed third at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 19. His vault, a personal improvement of eight inches which matched the best height of the day at the Summit, is the fifth-best clearance in Academy history. He is currently ranked second in the Mountain West and tied for the sixth-best height of the season in the NCAA.

The native of Alvarado, Texas, shared the conference’s Jan. 22 honors with San Diego State’s Shanieka Thomas, who was selected as the MW Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

The Falcons return to action this weekend (Jan. 24-26), as they host the 23rd-annual Air Force Invitational at the Academy’s Cadet Field House Indoor Track. Action begins with heptathlon and pentathlon competition on Thursday, while full team competition begins
