USAFA, Colo. -- The Air Force men’s basketball team earned its seventh postseason appearance in program history when it accepted an invitation Sunday evening to play in the 2013 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Falcons will play the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors in the first round on Wednesday, March 20 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tip-off time has not yet been determined.

This is Air Force’s second appearance in the CIT in the last three years and the seventh postseason appearance in the 57-year history of the program. AFA has been to four NCAA tournaments (1960, ’62, 2004 and ’06; lost in the first round each year) and one NIT appearance (advanced to the semifinals in 2007). Air Force is 4-6 overall in postseason tournaments.

The Falcons finished the 2012-13 regular season with a 17-12 record and placed sixth in the Mountain West with an 8-8 record. The Falcons lost to UNLV, 72-56, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Reese’s Mountain West Championships last Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.

Hawai’i enters the CIT with a 17-14 overall record. The Rainbow Warriors, who finished fifth in the Big West Conference with a 10-8 league mark, lost to UC Irvine, 71-60, in the conference tournament quarterfinals on March 14.
