COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Eastern Plains Community Pantry's mission is to encourage, support and enhance the quality of life of community members by assisting with food distribution, living necessities and other resources for everyone with respect and dignity and without judgment or prejudice.
"No, no judgment," said panty vice president, Shorty Lopez. "When we first moved here we needed help to survive. And we seen that need and that's why we started volunteering."
There are an estimated 500 families each month who will be served by the pantry. And with numbers like that the volunteers could use a little assistance themselves.
"We would welcome any donation, food, clothing, monetary," said pantry coordinator Anne Lopez. "Just anything they think would be good usable items."
If you would like to donate or volunteer, call Ms. Lopez at (719) 645-7770. The pantry's grand opening and pancake breakfast will take place on Saturday, March 16 from 8 - 10 am, at 701 4th Street, Calhan. All donations will go to providing assistance to those the Eastern Plains Community Pantry serves.
