Senior Katie Hilbig (Castle Rock, Colo.) scored a season-high 17 points, but the Air Force women’s basketball team dropped an 88-63 decision to Wyoming Wednesday evening at Arena Auditorium.

Hilbig also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while classmate Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) added 12 points and freshman Taylor Parker (Bozeman, Mont.) pitched in a career-best 10 points. Meanwhile, Kayla Woodward led four Cowgirls in double figures, scoring 22 points, and teammate Chaundra Sewell added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Falcons (4-22, 3-10) went into the second half with a 40-14 deficit after shooting just 23 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.  After Wyoming was able to extend its advantage to 27 points with 16:44 on the clock, Air Force put together a run to cut the margin to 60-39 with just over 11 minutes left to play. However, the Cowgirls responded with a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Air Force, which knocked down 21-of-31 shots (.667) in the second half, battled back in the final eight minutes, but were unable to overcome their huge deficit. Wyoming (21-6, 10-4) shot 52.4 percent for the game and knocked down nine three-pointers, while also holding a 35-31 advantage on the boards.

The Falcons are back in action this Saturday, March 2, when they host Fresno State in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
