PUEBLO, COLO. -- Thursday, a 911 caller reported a fire at a home on the 4500 block of W. 11 St. Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Fire Teams responded.
They requested mutual-aid from nearby West Park Volunteer Fire Department. When fire teams arrived two separate mobile homes were on fire on the property.
Crews successfully extinguished both fires before they could spread to any other materials or structures on the lot.
The mobile homes, one occupied by 28 year-old Chris Black, the other by Chris' father, are a complete loss. While the crews were still on scene Chris Black attempted to pull some personal property away from the blaze and was briefly overcome by smoke. As a precaution, he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Captain of the Emergency Services Bureau, Leroy Mora, was on scene. "This area is not in a fire protection district. As a result the only water we have to fight this fire is the water we bring with us." Captain Mora pulled in resources from Pueblo County Road and Bridge to bring in water and is grateful to them and the West Park Volunteer Fire Department for the assistance. "This is a confined space, hard to get to, and with lots of debris scattered about. The weather cooperated today but this could have gotten much bigger, much faster."
PCSO Volunteer Fire crews remain on scene watering down any hot spots to keep the fire from re-igniting.
