The University of New Mexico says anonymous allegations that football coach Bob Davie discriminates against players based on their race are "unfounded and untrue."

Lobos athletic director Paul Krebs said Wednesday that university officials concluded that the allegations cited in an anonymous letter were false after reviewing the letter and speaking with Davie.

The letter sent to various media outlets alleges that Davie tolerates white players smoking marijuana but not black players. The letter, which was signed "Sincerely, UNM Senior Football Players," also claims that Davie hands out harsher penalties against black players than he does against white players.

Davie dismissed the letter at a news conference discussing new recruits.
