Coroner: Suspect died of gunshot wounds

The suspect shot by a Woodland Park police officer Tuesday afternoon has died, according to authorities.

On Tuesday at about 2:25 p.m., an officer with the Woodland Park Police Department stopped a vehicle on eastbound Highway 24 that had just left Walmart.

Police said while speaking with the driver, it was discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Colorado Springs. While trying to detain the driver, he attempted to flee and struck one of the officers with the vehicle, authorities said.

According to authorities, shots were fired at the driver, 20-year-old Craig Bondo, and he was struck. He was transported to Penrose Hospital where he later died.

The officer involved in the incident are being placed on administrative leave, police said.
