PUEBLO, COLO. -- A 26-year-old Texas man has been charged with a menacing after stealing a pickup from a Pueblo store’s parking lot Thursday evening, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandal Johnson was charged with Menacing with a Deadly Weapon and 2nd Degree Auto Theft. This, after authorities said he stole a white 2005 Dodge Ram from the Acorn Store parking lot, located at Baxter Road and Highway 50 East, Thursday at about 6:30 p.m.

Authorities said the truck’s owner ran after the pickup. The pickup then became stalled while backing onto Baxter Road.

Johnson, according to authorities, grabbed a purse from the truck’s cab and left the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office said he was immediately confronted by witnesses and the truck’s owner.

That’s when police said Johnson threatened the group with a knife before running.

A store clerk in the area soon notified police that she saw Johnson using a payphone outside.

Deputies arrived and ordered Johnson to the ground. Authorities said he did not cooperate at first but was successfully taken into custody. According to police, he may have been intoxicated at the time.
