Suspects sought in Family Dollar armed robbery

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs police are searching for the suspects who robbed a Family Dollar late Sunday evening.

Police were called to the Family Dollar in the 4400 block of Edison Avenue, near Platte Avenue and Academy Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m., on the report of a robbery with a weapon.

According to police, two men entered the store while two employees were exiting the store after closing. Police said one of the suspects was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. He demanded one of the employees to open the safe.

When the alarm sounded, police said the suspects fled fromt he scene. A K-9 unit was not able to track the suspects' track.

One suspect is described as a black man in his mid 20s armed with a semi-automatic handgun, five-foot-ten, 140-150 pounds and dressed with a black baseball hat, a white bandana over the lower part of his face, black shorts and a black jacket.

The other suspect was described as a black man about five-foot-six with a slender build. He was wearing a purple bandana over the lower portion of his face, a purple baseball hat and a purple jacket. He was described as being in his late teens.

Police said the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
