Bald for Bucks event raises thousands

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- It was standing room only in the Rampart High Gym Wednesday as students organized the sixth annual Bald for Bucks.
This big shave is volunteers way of making a statement while raising awareness and funds for the Colorado Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
"Absolutely amazing to the see the community support that they are going to have today! Just the excitement that these kids have for Make-A-Wish." Lauren Beede, Make A Wish Development Officer, said.
An estimated 145 students, teachers and airman from Schiever Air Force Base participating in the event. The goal of Wednesday's even was $15,000.
"Everybody has a connection and its really inspiring to see." Megan Burnett Student Council Organizer said.
Over the past six years the event has generated $35,000 for cancer research. Each year Make A Wish grants as many as 200 wishes across the state.
I definitely tear up at this every year it gets pretty emotional." Burnett said.
One recipient of the a wish made possible through the generosity of the Rampart Highs School event is 12 years old
Zion Anderson. She was able to live her dream of swimming with the dolphins at Discovery Cove in Florida.
Anderson was diagnosed with osteosarcoma bone cancer in 2011.
"It was fun! And my mom was a little scary cat. She did not want to come close to the dolphins with me or anything. It was fun though." Anderson said.
The highlight of the day came as Anderson bravely shared her experience with the battle
"I am now happy to say " I no longer have osteosarcoma anymore." Anderson said.
