DENVER (AP) -- Ammunition limits for Colorado gun owners have won initial approval from the Democratic House after hours of emotional debate over the value of limiting rounds to prevent gun violence.

The Democratic House signed off on ammunition limits Friday after more than five hours of debate. The unrecorded voice vote sets up final action on the measure Monday.

The ammunition bill was the first in a Democratic gun-control package that also includes expanded background checks and banning concealed weapons on public college campuses.

Lawmakers planned to stay late into the night debating the gun-control measures. Democrats control both chambers of the Legislature, and Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper has said he supports expanded background checks and magazine limits.
