PUEBLO, COLO. -- Charges are pending for three people who were involved in a crash early Tuesday morning in a stolen vehicle.

At about 1 a.m., Tuesday, a Colorado State Patrol trooper tried to pull over a black Volkswagen SUV near 4th street and Chester for making an improper turn. The SUV, according to police, continued westbound on 1st Street then northbound on Bradford.

Police said the SUV then ran a red light at the intersection of Bradford and 4th Street and hit a white Chevrolet vehicle. The Chevy ended up in the middle of the westbound lanes of 4th Street and the VW rotated clockwise through a parking lot, colliding with a power pole.

The VW's driver, 31-year-old Nathan DeHerrerra and passenger 21-year-old Ashley Chavez, both of Pueblo, ran from the scene. Jesus Mendoza, 27, another passenger, was taken into custody.

Chavez was caught on 6th Street near Albany and Santa Fe, police said.

DeHerrerra was taken into custody underneath the 4th Street Bridge. He was transported to Parkview Hospital to be treated for injuries he received in the crash.

As for the driver of the Chevy, he did not receive any injuries. The passenger in the Chevy was hurt and transported to St. Mary Corwin Hospital.

During the investigation, police said it was discovered that the VW was reported stolen out of Pueblo on Jan. 21. DeHerrerra, Chavez and Mendoza all had outstanding felony arrest warrants.

Charges from this case are pending, police said.
