COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado State Patrol is continuing its investigation of a weekend fatal crash where alcohol was considered to be a contributing factor.

At about 1:26 a.m., Sunday, police said a 2006 Mazda 3 sedan was traveling southbound on Interstate 25 when it went onto the narrow eastern shoulder, police said.

As the driver attempted to bring the car into the correct lane, the vehicle started rotating clockwise, police said. It comtinues to rotate across the southbound lanes of I-25 before going off the western side of the road, police said.

The car, according to police, traveled across a grassy median from the on-ramp at Baptist Road before overturning. Police said the car continued to overturn as it traveled across the on ramp and traveled off the western edge of the ramp and down an embankment before coming to a rest on its wheels. The car was facing north.

The car's driver, Ashley Brooks, 27, of Colorado Springs, sustained serious injures but was wearing her seat belt, police said. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
