Neighbor fights vandalism

Early Monday morning, police were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Corona Avenue. During the night, vandals had used blue spray paint to mark cars, houses and buildings in the neighborhood, including Calvary Baptist Church. One side of the church marquee read, "I love the devil". The other side had a similar, crude message.

Mid-morning, Thomas Wagner read about the vandalism online. Thomas lives a street down from the church. He decided to do something about the graffiti.

"These guys are amazing at this church," said Wagner. "They help out so many people. So I got dressed and came down here, and I'm gonna see what I can do to get this off of here because this is wrong."

Thomas and his family of 8 have been helped by the church. Most recently by assistance in providing christmas gifts for his children. He felt helping the church was the only thing to do after all the things they've done for everyone else.

"I just think that with everything going on in the world, this is just wrong. This is a church. This is holy ground, you don't do this to a church. So we're here to do what we can to help them out."
