FALCON, COLO. -- El Paso County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of strangling, assaulting and trying to kill a woman during a dispute over custody of their child.
Deputies said 34-year-old Chandler Saso and a woman, Nicole Peterson, began arguing over custody of the 1-year-old Monday morning. During the argument, Saso attacked and choked Peterson until she was unconscious multiple times. He then followed her to a nearby shopping center at McLaughlin Road and Meridian Road.
At the shopping center, Saso attacked Peterson again and took back the child Peterson had taken from the home. He left to go home with the child.
Peterson again tried to take the baby, and as she was pulling away, Saso jumped on the car and began pounding the windshield. She was able to drive away, and Saso hurt himself after falling from the car.
He was taken to a hospital by helicopter around 5:33 p.m. Deputies said he will be charged with attempted first degree murder, third degree assault, second degree kidnapping, criminal mischief and domestic violence.
