COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- On the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks Criss Seal took to the streets with a flag for what he thought was going to be one hour.
It turned into five hours and a lifetime commitment to make sure that day is never forgotten.
Now every Sept. 11 he can be found at Academy and Galley walking the intersection waving his flag.
"I'm doing it because I'm proud to be an American and I'm proud to stand up and show my strength and to show my unity," Seal said.
Seal said each year he starts at 6:00 a.m. and walks through 6:00 p.m., or later, with no breaks.
"You build up so much energy from it and the positivity of everybody and the community I stay longer than 6:00 usually," he said.
Over his 10 years at his post Seal has gained supporters who join him walking back and forth.
"I didn't lose anybody that day but I guess in a way we all did, so I guess I just want to give something for their memory," Jim Reime, another marcher, said.
Reime said he has joined Seal the last seven or eight years to help people remember 9/11.
"When you start to forget things like that they tend to happen again, so we gotta keep it out there. People have to remember this," Reime said.
Reime and Seal said Sept. 11 is about reflecting on what happened, remembering those lost, and uniting as one.
"It was a big impact for us and I want to keep it alive. The strength that we need to have and the sense of urgency among each other and to unite each other, so that's why I do it," Seal said.
To make sure the day is never forgotten they said they will march on no matter what year after year.
"Rain or shine. I don't care. It's nothing what they went through," Reime said.
