EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- A motorcyclist has died after a crash on Goldfield Drive Monday afternoon.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Goldfield Drive and Fontaine Boulevard in Security-Widefield.

Colorado State troopers said the motorcyclist was going south on Goldfield when he crossed into the northbound lane and ran head on into a gray sedan.

According to troopers, Goldfield Drive was shut down in both directions but reopened around 8 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the sedan was take to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and speed is believed to be a factor.

No names have been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
