COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers arrested a man Tuesday morning for violating the city's public camping ordinance, the first arrest of its kind in the city.

Officers were approaching some campsites on public property to get them removed when they came across a camper near I-25 and the Martin Luther King bypass who was uncooperative.

The camper, 52-year-old Steven Wood, had to be restrained after becoming physical and was finally arrested.

According to officers, Wood had received a number of verbal warnings and a written warning to remove his campsite from public property. They said he also gave officers a fake name in the past and had a warrant out for his arrest.

Officers said he has also refused offers for temporary housing.

The "No camping on public property" ordinance was passed in 2010.
