PARK COUNTY, COLO. -- Officials with the Springer Fire are trying spread the word about ways the community can help its firefighters while they fight the 1,145-acre wildfire west of Colorado Springs.

About 399 firefighters are fighting the fire, which is burning on Pike National Forest land near Lake George in park County. They had it 23 percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone wanting to help the firefighters is encouraged to send a monetary donation and can do so by clicking here. You can also email a Thank You note to them at springerfireinfo@gmail.com.

The Incident team is supporting firefighters with food, providing them with the calories required to fight on the front lines. Crews are on their fourth day of the fire and are scheduled for 14-day assignments.

Fire crews, the Park County Sheriff's Office and Red Cross cannot accept food donations. They can however, accept water and Gatorade.

Anyone wishing to make a food donation should donate to his or her local fire department.
