FORT CARSON, COLO. -- A Fort Carson soldier from California who was stationed overseas has died in Afghanistan.

Spc. Tofiga Tautolo died in Nangarhar when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb. The 23-year-old was a member of the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at the Mountain Post.

Tautolo's awards include a NATO medal, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, a National Defense Service Medal and campaign medals from both Afghanistan, where he had served in 2009 and had been serving since March, and Iraq, where he twice served in 2008.

The Wilmington, Calif. native was in the Marine Corps prior to joining the Army in May of 2011.
