COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The owner of one of the pit bulls that attacked a man and his dog Wednesday has been charged.

Officials with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said Wednesday's attack was the dog's second such attack since 2010. The owner was convicted in March of that year for unlawful ownership of a dangerous animal and was charged Wednesday with the same count.

Because of the owner's 2010 conviction, he was in violation of a court mandate to properly contain his pet.

A neighbor in the 2400 block of Byers Avenue reported seeing two dogs running loose in the area Wednesday morning. Humane Society officials responded within 20 minutes but couldn't find either of them. However, they were able to find the dogs in the afternoon following the attack on a man and his leashed dog.
