Springs man arrested in Canon City after stealing purse, car

CANON CITY, COLO. -- Canon City Police officers arrested a man Monday after he stole a purse from a car, then led officers on a chase in a car he stole in Colorado Springs.

Officers said 29-year-old Jason Woods, a Colorado Springs resident, stole a purse from a car in Canon City. When officers tried to pull him over after spotting a car that matched the one seen during the crime, Woods, sped away, leading officers on a short chase near Highway 50 and Dozier Avenue.

Woods pulled over in a parking lot behind a motel, got out of the car and began running. Two other officers found and arrested him a short time later.

Woods is being charged with first degree criminal trespass, aggravated motor vehicle theft, eluding a police officer, reckless driving, driving while license denied/canceled and reckless endangerment.

Colorado Springs Police officers said the car Woods fled in had been reported stolen April 25.
