COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Fort Carson soldier who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol died Sunday morning after rolling his car during what Colorado State troopers are calling an "abrupt" exit off Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

According to troopers, 22-year-old Jamale Franklin took the sudden exit off Academy onto the Westmeadow Drive exit ramp around 1:40 a.m. As he tried to exit, Franklin lost control of his car. When he tried to get back on the road, he overcorrected and rolled his 2009 Chevy Cobalt.

Troopers said Franklin, who wasn't wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.

The passenger, 24-year-old Rayshan Williams, was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Troopers didn't release his injuries and said they didn't know if he was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

The investigation will continue this week, including trying to confirm how much alcohol was in Franklin's system.
