COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A suspected serial bank robber is brought down by police after he is found in a gambling den.
Officers said evidence collected from the robbery of the 1st Bank in the 1200 block of Garden of the Gods Road earlier this week put them hot on the trial of the suspect.
Colorado Springs Police, Pueblo Police, and the FBI began a joint investigation into a parole violator from Florida, Shawn Godbey, as their number one suspect in a string of bank robberies in Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
Thursday officers found a car associated with the suspect outside of a Budget Host Inn motel.
After questioning a tenant of the motel, officers were led to believe that the suspect may be found in Cripple Creek.
Local detectives, with the help of the Cripple Creek Police officers, located the suspect inside of a casino.
As Godbey was leaving, Cripple Creek officers confronted him in a parking garage and held him on an outstanding warrant until local officers arrived.
Godbey is back in Colorado Springs to face charges stemming from the 1st Bank robbery as well as three bank robberies that occurred in Pueblo at Sunflower Bank, Vectra Bank and ENT Credit Union.
